Finally on Sunday, the Mandujano family gave us the grand opportunity to visit the Leona Carrington sculptures that are on display in the Metepec Jardin Lineal, a park created recently in the center of the major Boulevard Toluca Metepec. The surrealist Carrington is a legendary artist in Mexico. Her 25 bronze sculptures in the Jardin Lineal create a fabulous experience, in a setting so unusual that it almost seems surreal itself, surrounded by traffic and large-scale urban shopping sprawl. The Jardin Lineal also features an enormous "Arbol de la Vida" (Tree of Life), an example of artesania that is endemic to Metepec, and one reason for the fame of the Pueblo Magico Metepec. After soaking up the wonders of Carrington on the Boulevard, we also visited the Instituto Mexiquense de Cultura of the State of Mexico, in Toluca. There were actually some Carrington sculptures there, as well as an excellent Museo de Culturas Populares. We returned home to Querétaro tired but very happy after a wonderful weekend exploring Mexican treasures with the Mandujano family.
