Santa Clara church and convent was built in the early 17th century, to honor the devout granddaughter of Conin, the Otomí Indian ruler, who was baptized into the Catholic Church as Fernando de Tapia and went on to become the first governor of the state. A treasure trove of baroque retablos, the church is situated behind a glorious garden.
