We have visited Tequisquiapan twice now – once by bus and again last Friday with Doris and Lee in a rental car. Both times we have enjoyed the clear blue sky and delightful weather of this resort town. It gained fame from its thermal mineral springs – still operating in a few spa hotels in town. But building on the waters, it has become a favorite vacation spot for Mexicans from Querétaro and Mexico City. The large and beautiful central plaza (named for Independence hero Miguel Hidalgo) features a wrought iron pavilion and the parish church of Santa María de la Asunción, from the 18th and 19th century. Around the plaza are many shops, including some excellent art work and very fine crafts. Nearby is the Mercado de Artesania, specializing in baskets made from rush and wicker. We enjoyed good food in restaurants on the plaza both visits.
