The Jesuits arrived early in Querétaro. They founded their Colegio in 1625. The church and the cloister of the Colegio were rebuilt in their current form in 1689. In the 1770s, Pope Clement XIV saw fit to suppress the Jesuits throughout the Catholic world, including the Spanish Empire. So these buildings were transferred to the Parroquia of Santiago. The church is in daily use. The cloister is also productively used: it now houses the Faculty of Philosophy of the Universidad Autonomo de Querétaro.
