Railroad service came to Queréaro in 1882. But major development of intercity rail traffic began with the inauguration in 1901 of the new train station. A sign above a door in the station still reads "México, 268.7km ... Larédo 1023.6km ... altura 1813.2mts". The passenger service stopped many years ago, but there is still freight service here. The station building itself, a masterpiece of Victorian design, is currently being spruced up - probably for museum use, perhaps in honor of the México Bicentennial coming up  in 2010.
