Hacienda Santa Maria Regla ( http://www.haciendaderegla.com.mx/ ) is one of several mining haciendas built by the major entrepreneur of his day, Pedro Romero, Count of Regla. The hacienda lies just below the Prismas Basalticos in the same canyon (originally the rest of the canyon and surrounding area were part of the hacienda). In the 1700s at least 2,000 people labored in this hacienda processing mined material to extract silver and gold. We stopped briefly at the entrance to the hacienda (the first photo) but the rest of the photos were taken from the rim of the canyon looking down on the site.
