Photographs by Lois and Don Porter
3/9/2007

We have been volunteering two afternoons a week at the Hogar Tata Juan de Dios, an orphanage here in Sucre. We help the teacher (Nilda) and the staff work with the kids (some 21 2- to 5-year olds). Lois brought along her elephant trunk, planning ahead for such activities. The elephant trunk and the "Un Elefante" song are a big hit with the kids. These are some photos of Lois and the kids having fun with the song (see below for the lyrics). Lois made a poster from the photos to share with the class - that's the first one in this collection.

Un elefante (Spanish)

Un elefante
Se balanceaba
Sobre la tela de una arana.
Como veía que resistia,
Fue a llamar a otro elefante.

Dos elefantes
Se balanceaban
Sobre la tela de una araña.
Como veían que resistia,
Fueron a llamar otro elefante.

Tres elefantes... (Y asi...)
One Elephant (English)

One elephant,
Was balancing,
On a spider web.
Since he saw,
That it didn't fall,
He went to call another elephant.

Two elephants,
Were balancing,
On a spider web.
Since they saw,
That they didn't fall,
They went to call another elephant.

Three elephants... (And so on...)
