In the van, Gabriel drove us down to the Potolo River, where there is a ford, in hopes of continuing to the Maragua Crater. Unfortunately, the river was too high, and Gabriel, after wading in the river, determined there were too many big rocks lying on soft sand, so we did not try to drive across. Instead, we drove up the Ravelo River a short way to a bridge, and then continued up the Ravelo and the Potolo (climbing an amazing canyon) to the village of Potolo. We had lunch at a chapel overlooking the river. The village was apparently deserted, on a sleepy Sunday afternoon. But our arrival brought out a few curious folks; one woman invited us into her home to demonstrate her Jalq'a weaving. We got to enjoy her demonstration and her children (all boys) – who were fascinated by the digital camera when we showed them their photos. Later we had prints made and left them with Karem to deliver to the family next time she visits Potolo. Driving back through Chamuco, we then climbed that scary road that Gabriel had taken to get back to Chataquila and eventually to Sucre (we gave 3 locals who needed to get to Sucre a ride in the back seat of the van).
