Castillo La Glorieta

The Prince and Princess of La Glorieta, Francisco Argandoņa and Clotilde Uriote de Argandoņa (relatives of Patricio Marion on his mother’s side of the family) built and lived in this eclectic castle during the last third of the 19th century. It has a Dutch-style faįade with a renaissance reed mace, an octagonal roman tower, a two story Byzantine main building, an Arabian style piazza with arches and a chapel with a gothic tower. The castle is being restored in preparation for a grand opening in May 2007 as part of Bolivian Bicentennial celebrations. Because of the restoration work the interior is currently closed, but we were able to tour the exterior and grounds, with Jimmy, our guide. The titles of Prince and Princess were bestowed on the Argandoņas by Pope Leo XIII in recognition of their work to benefit orphans and poor children in Sucre.
