On Sunday, January 20, we visited the highland Maya communities of San Juan Chamula and Zinacantan in a small group led by Raul, of Alex and Raul Tours. These are autonomous, true indigenous communities preserving their heritage. We were fortunate to visit them on a Sunday when significant festivals were happening in both towns.
