We attended a performance by Beatriz Pichi Malen in the Valdivia Municipal Theater on Feb 5, 2006. She was fabulous, a person of imposing presence and warmth, with a fabulous voice. She sang in Mapuche, producing some sounds that you wouldn’t believe possible. She also played the kultrun on several songs. She told stories and recited poetry, some Spanish and some Mapudungun, all by Mapuches. Wonderful images of nature. She introduced the dancer that joined her for the finale as an Aymara who had been "Mapuche-fied". Altogether wonderful.
