Coban, Biotopo, Lanquin

After our fabulous 2 hours at Semuc Champay, we bumped back to Lanquin and had a truly delicious breakfast of black beans, scrambled eggs with onion and tomato, plantain, tortillas and coffee for $1.25 each. Suitably fortified we bumped back to Cobán (2 and a half hours) and took the opportunity to eat sandwiches in a greasy spoon pizza place. At 2:20 PM, we left for the Vivero Alta Verapaz, located just south of Cobán. We had a good time talking with the gardener/owner, Don Juan, and looking at his wonderful array of orchids. A tripod would be required to get good shots of all the orchids that were inside the greenhouses – not enough light for hand-held exposure times. Since we didn’t have tripods, we made do. It was 4:20 by the time we left to head back to Antigua. It was endless driving until we finally arrived home safe and sound at 9:17 PM. We were all exhausted, but very glad that we made the trek.
