Alameda Hidalgo is a beautiful large park situated at the very center of the city. The space was donated at the end of the 18th century by the Viceroy Marqués de Branciforte. The trees were planted before 1800, with a formal layout of  paths. In 1897 a statue of padre Miguel Hidalgo was placed in the center of the park, and it was renamed Alameda Hidalgo. The park was restored to its original design in 1988.
