Calbuco

Leaving Castro, we took the big ferry back across the Chacao channel to the mainland, and drove east to Calbuco, a little town on a tiny island in the Reloncavi Sound, connected to the mainland by a short bridge. We were stunned to find ourselves in a guest room overlooking the sound, with views across the water of the Osorno and Calbuco volcanoes. A memorable sunset! We were further delighted the next morning to have a delicious breakfast, including the best lemon meringue pie in many years, in a cozy room that would have seemed just like home to Lois's parents.
