Leaving the cordillera, we drove back via Osorno to Lago Llanquihue, arriving in Puerto Octay on the west shore of the lake. We stopped at a delightful Bed and Breakfast, Zapato Amarillo (yellow shoe), a couple of kilometers outside the village. Our gracious hostess, Nadia, provided the best breakfast of the trip, along with charming conversation. She joked that the Bandurrias (wild buff-necked ibis) that frequent their farmyard are her preferred replacement for chickens. Next morning we drove along the lakeshore to Frutillar, a well-known resort town that could have been transplanted from the Black Forest, it is so German.
