San Lazarus day in Masaya
Each year on the Sunday before Palm Sunday, Nicaraguans bring their dogs to the Iglesia Maria Magdalena in the Masaya neighborhood of Monimbo to celebrate San Lazarus' day. The image of the Saint (a very small statue as saints go) is paraded in the street and then placed in the church for the dogs to visit. Our Granada friends were pretty amazaed at this spectacle -- even people who had lived in Granada for years didn't know about it.
