Jalapa
On Tuesday we took a luxurious bus to Jalapa, about an hour and a half from Veracruz in the mountains of Veracruz state. Jalapa is the state capital, much smaller than the port city, with a cooler climate, although it is famous for getting mountain drizzle. In fact we were treated to an afternoon Jalapa shower. The major attraction for us, though, was the Museum of Anthropology, containing the famous colossal Olmec stone heads. Lots more from the last 3000 years in Veracruz as well, and superbly presented. Smaller, but just as impressive as the Mexico City Museum of Anthropology.
