Monte Alban is one of the most important pre-Hispanic cultural sites in Mesoamerica. It shows what remains, after careful restoration, of the city built by the peoples of Oaxaca during the period from 800BCE to 1500CE. It marks important progress in human civilization for that period. The final photo shows a stele on the site that records a transmission of power and authority from an elderly woman ruler.
