After a pleasant and relaxing evening in their lovely home in Toluca, Manuel and Alejandra took us into Mexico City for the day on Saturday. Our principal objective was the Frida Kahlo House and Museum, in the Coyoacan section of the city. We arrived via bus and metro, and spent most of the beautiful morning in the fascinating house. Then we visited other parts of Coyoacan, including the town square, cathedral, and garden center. Later, after another metro ride, we toured the central area of Mexico City, with the Alameda, the Zocalo, the Metropolitan Cathedral, the “House of Tiles” Sanborn’s, and the amazing “Palacio Postal”, where Manuel had an office for a short time years ago. Finally we spent a fun-filled evening back at the Toluca house, entertained by Manuel’s and Alejandra’s stories of their childhood in rural Guanajuato. Their daughter Ale was able to identify some of the exotic animal life they described (she is soon to complete her Biology Ph.D.). It was fun to spend time also with Victor and his novia, Thalia. Lois was convulsed with laughter over the stories of boys digging up honey from beehives in the ground.
