On Wednesday we toured Salvatierra, Guanajuato with Alejandra, Manuel, and Cuquita. This is a very pretty colonial town, awarded “Pueblo Magico” status in December 2012. We visited several very magical churches and convents. Each was more magnificent than the last. The most magnificent was the Santuario Diocesano de la Senora de la Luz, facing the main plaza, Jardin Grande. Every aspect of the Santuario La Luz was impressive. By the time we completed our tour of four churches, we were pretty overwhelmed. We refreshed a bit with “nieves” (ice cream or sherbet cones) in the Jardin Grande. Manuel then drove us out to the surrounding area to see two ex-Haciendas. It turned out that both were undergoing renovation, so we couldn’t tour them, but we did get some photos of the Rancho San Jose del Carmen. Then we returned to relax, eat, and visit with family at Cuquita’s house in Chamácuaro.
